Government Discrimination?

While the country was enjoying yesterday's last-minute holiday declaration, the HR world was abuzz trying to decipher the holiday declaration exemptions.

For this holiday alone, the BPO and electronics sector was exempted from taking the holiday. However, employers in these two industries were still required to pay their employees the additional 30% holiday premium.

Several employers with international clients have taken to questioning the holiday declarations of the government. While the holidays definitely benefit the worker, how much does it really benefit the employers?

For those who would like to join in the dissection, the proclamation can now be found at this link, and is also attached here: PROC1874B - September 7, 2009 Special Holiday
